Forty high-school kids?

Go to the Dollar Tree (or whatever you have in your area ... there is someplace that sells things for a buck) and get these things:

A pack of tissue paper ($1)
A spool of ribbon ($1)
Five bags of Christmas candy ($5)
Five boxes of Christmas cookies ($5)

Look on the box and find how many cookies are in it, multiply that by 5 to find your total number of cookies. Then divide that by 40 to see how many each person gets.

Do the same with the candy.

Divide them up into piles using the numbers you figured out. Wrap each in a sheet of tissue paper (fold in half or in fourths first so it won't tear) and tie with ribbon.

That is more involved than candy roses, but it looks like you spent some time and money on it. And it's less than $1 per person. If the number of cookies and candy in each bag doesn't look like enough, you can always go back and get a little more ... you've only spent $12 so far. But that will definitely be enough tissue paper, so don't worry about getting two packs.

Just make sure there's some variety in the candy and cookies ... don't get all chocolate candy, for example, and not all sugar cookies. Throw in some suckers and gingerbread or something.

Aside from that, the CD idea is a good one. Except the administration might have a problem with you handing out pirated music ... plus it would take a LONG time.

Make CDs... It can be cheap enough. Or just do candy goody-bags.
