Hi,
The mark is called a diacritic. There are many diacritical marks but this one specifically is called an acute accent mark.

It's a diacritical mark known as an accent mark. It is possible to type on American keyboards. The easiest way is to use Alt-codes. The following website will explain how to do this as well as explain other possibilities.

If you are using Microsoft Word then you can go to Insert and then Symbol and you will find the letters with the accents on them.

They're accents but they all have different names I think. When I'm doing french homework & I need to use them I use Microsoft word---- Insert---Symbols
If I'm speaking to my French friends on msn, I just copy & paste them in from Microsoft word

from french words they are named

é = accent aïgue (acute accent)
è = accent grave (grave accent(sp?))
ë = tréma (dieresis)
ê = accent circonflexe (circumflex accent)
ç = cédille (cedilla)

you can do all or almost all french accent by using alt + 130(num pad) and up.
