How do you wear a scarf and a coat? Are both end supposed to hang in the front or one in the front and one in the back. Over your coat or on top of your coat, etc?

To achieve the casual look. just let each end hang loose on either side of the front of the coat., wrapped from back to front.
To achieve a more dramatic look, wrap it around your neck and have one side hang down the back and one down the front.
To really weather the cold, wrap it around your neck back to front, then cross over and throw the two ends over to the back. This way you can pull it up over your mouth and nose if need be.

There's no proper way to wear a scarf other than that it be around or over your neck. Some styles are more flamboyant that others, some are more conservative, some are warmer, some are more of a pain the butt.
I think that middle of the road (for a guy) is to just have it draped over the neck, crossed flat in front and under the coat. (the business look)
If you're feeling expressive, get a long one and do a one or two wrap around the neck with one end flowing free behind, and maybe the front one hanging out too. (the city boy look)
If you just need to keep warm, wrap the whole thing around your neck, possibly tucking in the ends to make sure they don't come undone, or with one end hanging down inside to cover the neck/chest. (the "gee, it's cold out" look)

There isn;t really an official way to wear a scarf.\
just wear it how you like,
