Hi there, I am planning on buying a laptop. The one I have chosen has a 2GB RAM / 120GB HD and a Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 video. I am wondering if Windows Vista Aero will run on that video chipset from Intel. Thank you.

First, has the manufacture declared that it is Vista Premium ready?, or just Vista Capable? The premium ready certification means that it will run Aero, while the Capable means it will boot Vista.
These are basic guidelines from the Vista website:

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1 GB of system memory.
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
DVD-ROM Drive.
Audio output capability.
Internet access capability.

According to the website from Intel, the 950 core has Pixel Shader 2.0 and DX9.

I can tell you that I have a copy of Vista (beta pre-rc1), and I absolutely love it!!

There's a big problem with using Aero on a laptop - tests have shown that having Aero enabled eats battery power FAST - so the whole idea of laptop Aero is bad, unfortunately.

Most laptop Vista users will want to disable Aero while running on batteries.

DC :)

If you really want to run Aero Glass (not just Aero) then I'm afraid the GMA950 won't cut it. Intel says it will but I have yet to see proof of Aero Glass running on the GMA950, though apparently it does play Half Life 2 quite well if you have 2GB of memory. I wouldn't chance it, I'd make sure to get a laptop with a discrete graphics card and if you can't swing that, get at least one with a Geforce 6150 IGP, it's not discrete but it should be able to handle Aero Glass just fine.

But yeah, I'd get a laptop with at least a Radeon X1600 or Geforce 7600 series.

To be worry-free, there is no perfect PCI video card. A PCI video card is like putting quite tiny wheels on a truck made for off-roading. it can make it down the street, even with the undeniable fact that the second one you get into some airborne dirt and mud, you aren't from now on going to bypass very quickly.
