I need to replace the alternator on my 94 astro van but I don't know how to go about getting to the alternator to take it off. Anyone know how to do this or where I can find out how to do it?

Every vehicle is different depending on the engine and where it is located. The best way to do it is to pick up a manual (either Haynes or Chilton). They will give you step by step directions on how to replace an alternator. You can look for one in your local library or pick one up at an automotive retailer. Just give yourself plenty of time and have some patience. If it has been in there a while you might want to pick up some penetrating spray and spray the bolts down to ease their removal. Let the fluid soak in for a while. You should also make sure you have the right tools for the job. When replacing an alternator it is also a good idea to change the belt(s) depending on its condition. Also check the condition of the alternator, if it has fluid on it, especially oil, that may have been what caused it to fail. You should fix the fluid leak to prevent your new one from failing. Best of luck.

It's kind of a pain, you have to remove the plastic air duct going to the air filter, there are 3 bolts(metric)holding it on,the lower one being the hardest to see or loosen,it's a double nut, with a bracket between the nuts, also they will all be very tight since the alternator is aluminum, and tends to "grow"over time.I should have mentioned that you FIRST remove the battery cables, then the wires going to the alternator.Like I said,it's a pain.Good luck-pick up a chilton repair manual from the library.

Go to your local Napa or Shucks store, and buy yourself a repair manual. They've got directions and pictures for almost any repair.
