You'll definitely want to see it more than once, because there is so much stuff in there that cou can't catch it all the first time through. You might want to rent it (or borrow it for free from the library) to check it out; the movie itself is so completely realized a satire that on first viewing, many people thought it was an actual documentary (Ozzy Osbourne thought not only was it a documentary, but that it was about HIM!). Some of the situations are a bit dated (the music business has changed a lot since 1986), but the performances, dialog (entirely improvised: there wasn't a single line written beforehand) and the songs themselves are hilarious. There are cameo appearances galore, many of whom you may not recognize as they are appearing so early in their careers, for example, the two mimes working as waiters at the start-of-tour party in New York are Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal, and the woman hosting the party is Fran Drescher.
Historical note: when Metallica was fourth-billed on the 1988 Monsters Of Rock tour, they referred to the second-billed Scorpions as "Das Ist Schpinal Tapp"

It's funny, but you have to had experience that era to appreciate the humor.
Fear of a Black Hat is similar to Spinal Tap, but instead of rock, it's making fun of the rap industry.

"On what day did God create Spinal faucet, and could not he have rested on that day too?" This 10 factors for the terrific quote is almost unfair, as there are a brilliant number of the two hilarious costs.
