It has caused me to be very depressed and feel unmotivated...any suggestions? I'm not bipolar, it was supposed to help with my severe panic and depression.

my sister takes tegretol for her seizures. You might want to check with the pharmacist. I would look at other treatment options like hypnotherapy too. Depression is one thing that you may need medication for if you have no reason to be depressed. If you have a good reason to be depressed than you need strategies to deal with whatever is depressing, not medication to mask it. Panic attacks are purely psychological and easily treated with hypnosis!

No matter what it was SUPPOSED to do, the relevant point is that it DID NOT. Always report back to your doctor and get it across to him or her that it has not helped. There are many other meds out there, and not all meds work for all people. Not all conditions are simple to diagnose, either.

If you feel your doctor is not empathetic, not caring, not listening, not understanding, not knowledgeable.....well, you get the point. Change doctors. Don't feel guilty. Just like friends or partners, some relationships work, some don't. It is your responsibility to yourself to get a second, third, or more opinion until you've found the answer. You owe it to yourself to get the right help. The right doctor and the right med are out there, really. It was for me, but I had to work to find the right answer. I just had to keep changing professionals until one was right for me.

Also, this is not a problem best handled by your family doctor. Diagnosing and prescribing psychoactive meds are the province of a psychiatrist. Use their expertise for your best interests.

This is one of the best favors you can do for yourself. Depression may only be temporary or it may be much more long lasting. Which ever, it needs attention. You'll be glad you did. I was.

tegretol is for seizure disorders. i took it for 5 years becuz i had a seizure in '97. it's not for anxiey/panic or depression. get another doctor, if you're not bipolar or haven't had a seizure you shouldn't be on that medication.

All these medications cause different reactions in everybody. If you are having unwanted results talk to your physician and see if he/she is willing to try something else. Good luck. :)
