What was used in vintage glass to make glass glow various colors, such as yellow, green and orange?

I am not aware of any "modern" glass that glows in the dark.

However, for the 'vintage' glass that you are referring to is known as "vaseline" glass or "uranium" glass.

Uranium oxide gives this glass its particular color and its fluorescence.

Hi. The glow is caused by dyes in the glass. They can glow by changing the frequency of light by absorbing and re-emitting at a lower frequency. U/V is different because the light in not normally very visible, but the principle is the same.
