I shouldn't assume but this is for school right?... the 3 minute speech(?)

I think commercials (TV and/or radio) could be talked about at any grade.
From how they target certain groups of people to how they entertain us.
How ads inform, embarrass, make us think and seduce us to make purchases.
Just narrow down to one aspect of it and be thorough and maybe witty about it.

It seems like a hundred years ago for me but my best friend covered this topic and went regional with his speech... it was really well done.

Good Luck!
Hope this helped or at least spawned an idea for you.

Are you addressing adults, little kids, a large group? Anyway, opt for something you feel intense about, if possible. Something that really bugs you, or something you find fascinating. Make it something the audience wouldn't know much about, but would like to know more about. How about Krakatoa - the island that blew up in 1870 (or so) - because it's building up to explode again, and could wipe out half of Indonesia, and wreck our atmosphere for years.

I tried to avoid religion and politics as topics. Pick something you are interested in and you will get a good grade for enthusiasm. Do be afraid to talk about card collections or skate boarding as long as you like it you will do well

If you're good at preparing mangoes or love chillis, then that might be somewhere to start.
Find an enthusiasm that the audience might share!
Then just address your audience with humour and sincerity, take good long pauses(not too long though), it adds gravitas, and talk slowly (giving you time to think) and the rest should flow naturally, if not oration probably isn't for you. :D
