Did anyone find this movie just a little too much. I mean it wasn't horrific it was more psychotic and disgustingly torturous. I wasn't as scared as I was horrified by it. Is there a line that should be drawn in horror films..

My question is I guess..What draws the line for too much or too grotesque for you in a horror film..

I hated the movie because of the rape..and I guess that being used as a vice in any horror movie is with no point upsets me

I love horror films. (generally) But I tend to agree with you on this one, definitely too disturbing.

I thought the blood, gore and originality of some of the killings were cool.

Vampires, Zombies, Monstrous creatures, even hockey masked killers that keep coming back to life seem scary to me while watching them (maybe a little while after lol) but they don't seem to be real "in the light of day".

The disturbing rape scene (and lactating mother scene) seemed disturbingly unnecessary, I found nothing about this part of the movie entertaining. Maybe it's because I'm a woman but this type fear does not seem as far fetched in this crazy world, there really are some warped perverts out there!

Despite being a big fan of horror movies, I find that most of those being produced now suffer from similar defects, and those flaws are especially apparent in remakes such as The Hills Have Eyes and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The new versions always suffer by comparison. People seem to forget that horror is a psychological state rather than one of merely physical revulsion, which is what most recent horror films are entirely dependent on.

If you look at something like Psycho or the original TCM, there's barely any explicit violence, yet they succeed in creating an atmosphere of dread and paranoia. Movies like The Hills Have Eyes try to compensate for the crudity of their design by overwhelming the viewer with over-the-top violence, but it results only in disgust (which you can quickly brush aside) rather than genuine horror.

I never knew the film was based on a true story. Anway, my opinion was that the film was not scary so much as bothersome. It felt really cheap because instead of going for something a little more psychologicaly thrilling or frightening, it is merely blood, guts and a rape scene that was as much tasteless as it was unnecessary. While tey meet a different standard today, some of the better films in horror and thriller were done by Alfred Hitchcock because he was able to scare people through their minds rather than resorting to the levels of blood gore and sex so rampant in tody's movies.

I agree with Russ, the Remake was Stupid. the Original was 10 times better. someone in Holly Wood wanted to make some money
so they took out a classic and destroyed it.. As for it being to grotesque. They been going down that road for years now. do your self a favor rent the original you wont be disappointed.

there is no line. in hollywood, bigger is better.

the whole idea of the film was to be gruesome and horrific, and it's what drew viewers in.

someone who enjoys horror films is going for the gore. the bloodier it is, the more it makes it worth your $10 to get in. i would've been disappointed if this movie WASN'T gory.

so in other words, if you don't like gore, don't watch horror movies. they are only getting worse as society's acceptance grows.

i found the movie quite horrifying myself i wasnt really scared because it was basically just a movie based upon torture but it is based on a true story so i guess you have to accept it because they want you to see the whole picture of what really happened

You, no doubt are talking about the remake of "The Hills have Eyes"
I found this movie not only distasteful, it was not true to the original storyline!
