As a parent I wouldn't say it is necessarily bad,but there are some bad people on there that are pretending to be someone that they are not. Some kids do need some supervision while on the site because they are too trusting of others.

The reason why there is so much controversy around Myspace is the fact that it can be used in stalkings or similar things. However, there are ways that you can safeguard yourself. You can't put information that is describing of where you are, how to contact you, or any personal information up (Social Security Number, ID Number, etc.)
The reason why parents don't like it is because they usually can't control what goes on a Myspace. Younger children tend to not see the ramifications of putting information on Myspace; it is difficult to conceive, particularly if the child has never been exposed to a situation of the like.
However, I think that it is unreasonable to block your children from Myspace. I think that it is important to press upon the child the importance of safe surfing, and Myspace is definitely one of the items that should be discussed.

Parents don't like it because it can be a way for "bad" people to have access to personal information about their children. Some kids on myspace are crazy enough to think that they're not in any danger when they give out cell phone numbers, addresses, and the like. The reality is that they are putting themselves in a lot of danger. ...Not everyone in the world is a good guy, there are a lot of scummy b@stards out there who prey on young people.
But no, in and of itself...myspace is a great site to meet people.

Myspace isn't bad. One just has to know how to use it properly without getting in trouble over the internet. Most parents don't like it, simply for that reason - they're afraid their children will be abducted by an internet predator, etc. You just really need to be safe when you use any public/chat based website, especially Myspace.

myspace is not bad its just some of the people on there make it bad. I think parents don't like myspace because some people put porn on there or stuff that kids shouldn't be seeing....

Myspace is a great place if your only talking to people you actually know.
There are many preditors online but personally I don't care. It's common sense not to meet the person.
I think that parents do not like Myspace because you will get more into computers and downloading things and eventually you'll end up downloading a virus.

Myspace is not bad but there are bad people who get on there and attempt to contact 10 - 17 age girls and make dates with them.

They are afraid you will give too much info, about where you live so sex offenders will stalk and hurt you, also revealing bad behaviors that could hurt your chances at jobs/colleges that look at your myspace
but not limited to sex offenders but other dangerous people and could get you into situations you would want to avoid
but most people excercise good judgement, and dont add/talk to strangers and give away info to people they dont know, and keep their profile on private
also myspace is addictive and soaks up a lot of time

Because there are people on myspace that convince you that they are your friends, but these people are lying.
These are people that have gotten out of prison after they've served their jail sentence for sexally molesting children. They are on myspace looking for more victims

It's very...interactive. It's bad because it gives viruses and pretty much forces you to give out personal info, and people WANT to give it out. Parents are overprotective, myspace is something to interact with friends, but it still sucks.
