There are at least two scenes where Ennis quickly "kisses" items of clothing he is holding. Before he goes on one of his "fishing trips" with Jack, he grabs his own shirt from the closet and quickly kisses it before packing it. At the conclusion of the movie when Junior forgets her sweater, he gently folds it up and kisses it before putting it on the closet shelf. Is there some significance to that? I think what confused me is that Ennis lightly kissed his own shirt before packing for BBM, but I'm wondering if that was Jack's shirt? Anyway, I've never had a movie touch me more and I think these characters are memorable. So, if you can help me figure out the significance of the light, quick and gentle kisses to the clothes, I'd appreciate it.

He has memories with the first shirt he kisses and he's kissing the memories because he loves them.

He kisses Junior's sweater because he loves her and the memories she's given him.

When you really love someone you'll do weird things like kiss things that remind you of them and the times you spent with them after they're gone.

The kisses of the clothing is more symbolic of their first time together on Brokeback. The individual times throughout the movie don't really have too much significance beyond that, at least in my opionion. However, in the end, when Heath Ledger holds the outfit on the clothes hanger to his chest, I cried. Brokeback Mountain was a truly beautiful film and touched me as well.

Simple... his love for these ppl was, deep, especially for Jack
Tears start to flow every time I watch this movie. It was so heart breaking when Ennis found out his true love (Jack) had died, and how. And at the end of the movie, when he put his shirt over Jacks shirt,(or the other way around?) OMG that was so sad!
Good question! thumbs-up for you!

The kissing of the clothing is symbolic of Ennis' desire to slap scrotums with that other dude.
