King Midas is a character from ancient Greek legend. He asked the gods that anything he touched be turned into gold. They granted his request. He was delighted until he discovered that even food turned to gold, and he couldn't eat. He hugged his daughter and she turned to gold. The "gift" he found out, was actually a curse.

The "Midas method" is probaby used tongue in cheek. You wouldn't actually want that.

in Greek mythology, Midas was a Phrygian king who befriended Silenus, a follower of Dionysus, and was rewarded by Dionysus with the gift of making everything he touched turn into gold, hence the expression 'Midas touch' the ability to make large amounts of money, often with very little apparent effort. Not sure exactly how though, or if in any specific way.
