It's not manufacturer specific. The only way you can answer this question is to compare similar models from different manufacturers. IBM, Gateway, HP/Compag, and Dell all have been at this game for a while and each offeres something the other does not.

You need to watch www.stupidcheapcomputers.net They get stuff that is like $400 sometimes that is pro-grade. The cheap crap that you can get at Wal-Mart and other retailers is consumer grade (meaning crap) and is going to be completely obsolete as soon as Vista is released in January. That's why there are so many mega-cheap systems right now. The retailers all know that their stuff is about to be junk so they have to move it FAST.
