I am mostly scared of the noise, but also of the sight of them. I have never met anyone else with this fear. Am I the only one?

This is an interesting phobia. I've not heard of this before. Perhaps you should try to face your fear and take a ride in one. They are a lot of fun. I used to fly them in the Army.

I've always been fascinated by them, myself. I used to have occasion to be close to them often when they landed, and while I didn't like the noise, I think I was very taken with their ability to land and take off vertically.

They ARE noisy, however, so I would think that there must be others who fear them. Since most of us develop phobias from an incident, it can sometimes help to deliberately but safely put ourselves in a situation in which we can confront fears that are essentially irrational. Perhaps you could arrange to go to a place where they will be landing - an air show, perhaps? - with a trusted friend or family member, so that you can convince yourself emotionally of what you already know logically. Good luck!

I don't know of anyone else who's afraid of helicopters. You're the only person I've ever heard mention that.
