I assume it doesn't object because it does little or nothing about it and the hate filled messages posted by racists, bigots and homophobes stay on site for long periods of time. It's getting to be like a cesspool around here.

There is no financial imperative to tend to this issue. They see no need to fix the problem because few people complain to anyone, so it sees nothing to gain by acting. Short sighted, because the inaction will lead to this too being another failed forum because no one cared to protect it.
This is not a freedom of speech issue, Yahoo regulates speech all the time on Yahoo Answers, it gives abuse violations for all sorts of errant speech, but does little to curtail serious and flagrant abuse. Yahoo Answers has specific rules that tell us what we can and can not do, but it is erratically and unevenly enforced.
You can not go to a tv station and spout off the things said here, nor expect your newspaper to print the things you read here citing your freedom of speech. Yahoo is in the much the same business, besides being a web portal. Yahoo is NOT the town square. Speech is regulated all the time.
Lets also not lose sight of the fact that Yahoo Answers has a narrow focus. It is about asking questions and getting answers, not debating the great issues of the day, or sticking a question mark on the end of a tirade against any particular group and calling it a question. Yahoo Answers has rules that say this, but it doesn't enforce these rules.
Yahoo needs human moderators to enforce the rules it has in place, not to squelch speech, but to provide an enviroment that all can use without the abuse. If a hater is disrupting the forum, or trying to destroy it so no one can speak, then there is no freedom for anyone.
Don't hide behind the constitution (the document that Yahoo-Inc is governed by), it isn't a Bill of Rights issue.
It boils down to Yahoo shirking its responsiblity once again to be a good corporate citizen. Its Yahoo allowing (though neglect) a hostile enviorment for minorities, and giving aid and comfort to bigots, haters, homophobes, and cyber bullies.

Cesspool?---It's passed that point already!
In the meantime, it's "keep on with RAMO and RAMO", each and every time we see violations of the terms of service and community guidelines. And if folks won't interact with trolls----just silently report, with e-mails to Yahoo as backups----maybe we can shut down the hatespeech.
My holiday wish: that users would forget about reporting for chattiness, "not a q/a", "incomprehensible", minor point gaming issues, minor ads/spamming, and similar trivia----and that they'd collectively come down hard, to help clean up the hate speech and grossly offensive language on so many sections of Y/A.

I know, it's very contrived. I think personally they don't want to get involved for fear, if that makes any sense to you. They don't know how to deal with the repeat offenders, how do you keep track of something like that with little manpower, limited resources and the influx of politics, which are confusing to anyone, at least to me. They pride themselves in the privacy act but are also stating an oxymoron because of the loophole the patriot act enacted- it's actually quite stupid, how does one allow for freedom in an open community such as this without being a police state. These are just my opinions, thanks for reading.

Some of the posts are a bit OTT I agree - BUT speaking as a gay bloke, I would rather the odd homophobe have his little rant - than us have to censor everything we don't like.
If we disagree, we move on. Nobody forces you or me to read posting we dislike.
Some of OUR postings might upset some folks - albeit perhaps without wishing to.
Free speach or censorship. your call but none of this "only the bits I agree with should be free-speech" ;)

Yahoo doesn't care because Yahoo doesn't HAVE to care. That's why Yahoo will gladly sell out its members to totalitarian governments; if the government want the ID if someone who posts anti-government blogs (for instance talking about democracy in China) then Yahoo will give it to them.

I think that's a good question. We can be violated for 'chatting' for saying how ya doin to someone, but we can talk about child abuse, animal abuse, sexual abuse, or any combination of the above, and the messages stay up till they expire. Don't get it myself.

certain, yet there are also messages condemning hatred and bigotry. the international may also see that there are a kind of human beings that still recognize yet another human being beliefs. in my opinion, the followers are interior the minority.

I agree. I got one of my questions deleated for chatting. The question was "where were you when your ship sailed in?" That same day there was a question on "Why do white women date black men? Do they have no self respect or are they hoes?" I was like WTF? That question stays on and my gets deleated. Go figure.
