AFI is a great band, and their new stuff is just as good as the old. also, a lot of people are turning away from My Chemical Romance b/c they are different now. it just proves that people are becoming more and more close minded.

I don't think that there is anything with a band wanting to try something new. I think that bands should also try to change and progress and become better with each record they make.
Sure, some bands get alot of slack for doing so, but those so-called 'fans' can't really be fans if they desert a band as soon as it starts doing something different.
I mean, there are some bands who's older stuff I prefer and some bands who's newer stuff I prefer. I guess it's just personal taste.
But I really hate it when you get these 13 year old kids who say they like the bands older stuff, whilst they were still kids whilst it came out.

It's alright for a band to try something new, as long as they aren't selling out. Bands do that all the time, try to sound more catchy or like what's "poplular" at the time so they sell more..it's sad and a waste of talent. New as long as it's original is always good. That's how bands mature.

because people get used to a band with a certain sound. and when you pick up a new album, you expect that same genre, but fresher. when trying something outrageously new, sometimes the fan won't accept it with open arms, because it's not what they expected. most people don't handle change lightly.

Sometimes you have to move in a new direction to get back to what's really important. Musicians get a lot of flak for doing that. I can think of quite a few bands who have done that and survived.
