When interviewed on that subject he said he was Bisexual in the movie because he felt it was more true to a pirates nature to be bisexual. Pirates would be out on the sea for months and since women were considered bad luck on ships, if they were going to have any sex with anyone other than themselves...they'd had to be with another man.
In real life however I do not believe he is, but I've never took the time to find out.

No, Johnny Depp isn't Gay. When not working he lives in France and until late this last summer he had lived with a French actress for 7 years and fathered 2 children with her, this summer, he wed her in a quiet, but not secret ceremony. I hope this helps.
