This was never a possibility, although Bush says he just found out on his trip to Jordan.

Turkey will never allow anything resembling a Kurdish state on their border. The reason they did not join Bush’s Coalition of the Few is that they were demanding to be allowed to ‘pacify’ northern Iraq. What that meant, of course, is that they wanted to exterminate all the Kurds. Syria has no use for the Kurds either.

And, the only thing that might, temporarily at least, unite the S’hia and Sunni of Iraq would be if they joined forces to kill all the Kurds and reclaim the northern oil fields.

Regardless of whether they do it together or separately, the Kurds are dead and there will be no separate-but-equal division of Iraq.

This has been the situation for decades and one of the main reasons that invading Iraq was a stupid idea doomed to failure – just as Bush’s father and Colin Powell predicted.

The only thing at the end of your 'course' is: failure, defeat, humiliation, destabilization of the region, increased terrorism, and a more dangerous world with far less security for America and Americans.

Why do wish that upon your own country?

I don't think pulling out is the best solution to the Iraq problem. And I think the Iraq commission's suggestion to turn to Saudi Arabia and Iran for assistance is ludicrous. It's been established that Iran has been selling weapons to Iraqi militants. Asking Iran and Saudi Arabia for assistance with Iraq is akin to a state gaming commission asking the mafia for help running a casino.

The best solution, and the one that people don't want to hear is to "stay the course." Until the Iraqi Army is sufficiently trained, until the Iraqi government is self-operational, until the infrastructure is close to completion - American forces must stabilize the area. If we leave before then, the Iran is going to muscle its way into that nation. Iran fully admits to developing a nuclear program.

Most people calling for the removal of US troops are only thinking about the present, the number of troops killed, the amount of money being spent. However, if the US leaves before the area is stabilized, the number of troops killed and amount of money will pale in comparison to the years and years of political trouble that the US will face.

If anything, we need to crank the pace of this war and be more aggressive. This slow burn is dragging things out. An interesting article on the subject can be found here:

The solution is not easy. We should increase our troop strength in Iraq. The majority of American forces should be placed along the borders of Iran and Syria in order to interdict terrorists and shipments of arms in support of sectarian groups. This type of warfare is what the Army is trained for and they would handle it effectively. Training of Iraqi soldiers and police should be stepped up with the Iraqi forces taking responsibility for internal security in the country. The people doing this training should be personnel with police backgrounds since the largest amount of insurgency would be considered urban in nature. As training increases in the Iraqi army new regiments should be tasked to take over border patrol activities from our soldiers and at this time a phased withdrawal should begin. The withdrawal should continue until all that remains is ready reaction force to support Iraqi troops with additional and ongoing training. Diplomatically we should continue to meet with the leaders of the secretarian tribes in an effort to foster cooperation between the groups. The military objectives will be achieved by cutting off the flow of supplies and armament thus forcing the sectarians to the bargaining table as they find their support diminishing. The biggest problem is manpower.

i'm a protection force spouse who's husband is presently deployed to Iraq... remember troops and reduce back out as we talk? LOL! the actual reason we gained't go away as we talk must be because the Iraqi military can not keep up the violence without the U. S. protection force to assist. regardless of the U. S., there remains violence so imagine how this is going to likely be if the U. S. replaced into lengthy gone. also, it is more advantageous than only Sunni vs. Shiite. it is about those who imagine that freedom of speech, faith, etc is incorrect and could kill themselves and persons interior the technique only to get their element for the period of. it is about a rustic that replaced into oppressed for years and years and this is going to take a even as for them to be stabilized (imagine Nazi Germany for the duration of WW2).

Find a new dictator.

Face it that's what the country needs...Saddam kept the country under control. Sure he had to use violence once in a while but at least the country wasn't out of control like it is now.

I believe we need to walk tall and carry a big stick! By this I mean not take any more of the daily bombings but rather tell the Iragui people that we will start bombing their hot spots right off the map, it is the only reasoning they will understand!!!!!!!!!

Deploy more troops, stop being "PC" about fighting a war, stop fighting a containment war and go after our enemies. With more troops in place, more effectively can we train Iraqi troops to take on the resposibility of securing their country. Misguided public opinion has hamstrung our military to the point of being ineffectual. Unless we unleash the dog from antiwar pacifist rhetoric we will not be able to win. No one wants to be there but we know how to win, lets let them do it.

Have the people vote on if they want the US troops there. If not then we go home and allow all of the Allah praising, peaceful, kind, humane Muslims exterminate themselves.
