Heath Ledger spit on his hand so he could lubricate Jake Gyllenhaal's butt before he had sex with him. They probably didn't have any other way to do it,since they didn't have any kind of lube available.

okay, the spit was for lube, so they could have anal sex. they had sex that you saw only a couple times. however, there was tons of implied sex. i'm assuming you didn't see the movie, so if you don't want to know the ending, don't keep reading. each guy married a woman and had kids. they stayed secret lovers for years until jack twist (jake gyllenhaal) was killed because he was gay. ennis del mar (heath ledger) lived sadly ever after.

On why he spit on his hand....after all he was just about to stick his ding-dong in Jakes butt. It was more or less used as a lubricant.
Don't know how many times, I would think everytime they got together!!!
Jake "mysteriously" had died. But... Heath's love for him never ended.
I thought it was a very good movie.
An epic love story! A tear jerker!
Have you ever really watched it, if you did, I would hope you checked out the bonus features. ( that is if you watched it on DVD)
