I don't know what the MM sizes relate to in SAE sizes, but frankly I would normally do it the same way you did if I wasn't going to deal with it again; however, if you ever have to return to the site to redo the flr for a different application, Id screw it into the flr on 8" squares in the center and 6" along the sides using 1" longer in length past the plywood your using.
again boring, but any mistakes are easily corrected.
on the other hand, the nail gun is great too, but the screw gun with the 3' handle is a little slower, but your standing up.
I read the other suggestions and a nail gun and liquid nails are great, but ....'don't attempt to remove it again' without a job ahead of you.

6mm is so thin i'd use glue. coat both sides, lay it into place, then roll something over it so all the surfaces are pressed into place and nothing's going to loosen and creak after.

anything thicker than half an inch (12mm) use floor screws. long ones along the centre of your joists, and less long ones ever 5-6 inches to fasten the new floor to the old. you want to really lay it down so it doesn't start to move, make noise and crack your flooring above.

Use a SCREW GUN this way the screws does not work out like nails take this for real. in you can also use liquid nail on it with the screws thats if you want.

I would use a nail gun with 8d nails, also use liquid nails or some other sub floor adhesive
