Its not a count really. There isn't a magic number. Every child is different. Your child may nurse 5 times a day while someone elses is a tad bit more. My son at 8mths old nursed more often then some others I knew. He nursed when he woke up, nap time, and at bed definetly. He also nursed if he was hurt or just wanted comfort. As far as food, at 8mths I would be doing baby cereal mixed w/fruits or vegies (baby food). Hope this helps! Good Luck & Congrats on nursing!

At this age it's still feed on demand. My six month old daughter still eats every two hours during the day, and once at night in a 10 hour period. Cereal is good to start with, and you could start giving veggies or fruits as well at this age. Breastmilk is still the main source of nutrition, but a small meal 2 or 3 times a day is beneficial as they need to start getting the hang of adult foods. Good for you for breastfeeding this long!
LOL, a little chocolate is okay.

By 8 months old they should be being introduced to all types of healthy food in a consistancy that they can deal with - home made preferable, and breast fed still as and when. They will gradually wean themselves off the breast and should be encouraged to do this. The last feed to drop I would say is the last one at night.

An occasional small piece of white chocolate would do no harm but not in excess unless you want a baby choco-holic.

Hope this helps.

Feed on cue, when the baby wants to nurse.
Breastmilk should still be the main source of nutrition.
Solids are still mostly for fun and practice until around 12 mos or so when they begin to become a bigger part of the diet.
No, chocolate isn't a good idea for a baby this young.

my seven month old has three solid meals a day so now only has breastmilk as a drink or a comfort feed, and still wakes through the night, so i would say that it depends on what else you are giving your baby, i have just gone with what my son is happiest with so it's pretty much an on demand thing.

i also try to make sure his meals have plenty of variety but also includes putting in vegetables like spinach, carrotts broccoli ect as they are high in vitamins, and potatoes or cous cous and sometimes a bit of minced chicken or beef, but not too much as they don't need it yet. he usually has porridge for breakfast with some fruit like banana or pears, and i'm introducing finger foods like rice cakes and bread or toast so he can learn to feed himself.

good luck with everything but don't try to compare your baby to everyone else and just do what you think is best, children have a way of telling you when they aren't happy it's called screaming lol!

As many times as it takes to satisfy it's hunger....Milk from mom is ALL the child needs (food-wise) being touched , held , loved and talked to , Cleaned and sheltered are all a must BUT chocolate should wait until it's body can process it !!!

Breastmilk is THE most important food.

As for how often they should breastfeed... hmmm... I don't know. Mine does every 2-3 hours day and night, even still at 9 months.

I can't find any info on how often. Try La Leche League message boards: http://forums.llli.org/
