Can anyone site sources about American settlers cutting out Indian Women's Uterus' and making purses?

I am serious. I have a friend that said he "read" about this in Time Life. I know many atrocities were done on both sides during the westward expansion...But this?

May I suggest that you have this 'friend' site his true source? You may also go to the library and check out the back issues of Time magazine or search for it in any of the Time Life books. Most of your searching could be done electronically, due to the modern libraries we have now.

Soft tissue, such as the uterus, would be very difficult to preserve into anything and common sense tells me that, with the majority of the settlers not knowing anatomy, they would have had no idea if they were cutting out the kidney or uterus.

Here's a link that might help. It provides links to details of many atrocities commited at the time of the Indian Wars. It is biased, in that it represents the Indian side of the story, but that is not to say that it is untrue. Atrocities occurred on both sides of the conflict.

Your friend read a flawed article. It is true American settlers did indeed comit atrocities that were horrible and shameful. One of the types of revenge the settlers got on the Native Americans was capturing their women, cutting open their stomachs, and hanging them by their intestines. However, this was usually done in a mob mentality. Purse making required a great deal of thinking and individuality, even the settlers thirsty for revenge wouldn't do that by themselves.
