Some friends are coming over tommorow night and they all would like to watch a scary movie, but i dont know any good ones. Nothing gory, and not the exorcist, but something that really scaired you! thanks for your suggestions

The Shining with Jack Nicholson. That was a creepy movie.

For a change of pace, real suspense, some spine-chilling scares without shock, and a good story, try The Changeling, with George C. Scott, a Canadian film from 1979.
Scott plays a widowed composer who buys a house that he finds is haunted by a child with a terrifying secret. The scary parts of this are scary because they feel as if they actually happen--to you or someone you know.

The Audition - Japanese - be patient . The first 50 or so minutes sets it all up and the last 20 minutes will FREAK you out.
The Eye - Chinese - not especially gory but uses shadows, strange imagery and music to scare the bejeesus out of you.

There's a whole series called "Scary Movie" - 1, 2, 3, 4. You could choose any of those, since the title says it all.
I didn't see them - thought I'd be too scared.

amittyville horror- alittle gory at the end though
the grudge (first one) - i know you've maybe heard it as being stupid, but it seriously spooks you the first time you watch it
the skeleton key- makes you use your brain too. really awesome though
boogeyman- was stupid, lol but if yall scare easily and are beginners. then go for it.
the shining
shutter- its an asian film, but asian scary movies are so awesome and good.
theres this really good asian one thats with these 2 girls that are sisters...i cant remember the name of it though.

an american werewolf in london hands down not to gory because they knew just how much gore to show. and it still scares the crap out of me and i am a horror movie junkie lol

welll there's this movie called "Candy man" that scared the **** out of me, but everyone else thought it was stupid...."the secret window" really freaked me out too
