I know only there should be only two or three answers to this inquiry. I was wondering if Mark Cuban should buy the Bucs, what would the price be to buy the team, and what would the short and long term implications of such an ownership would be?

He's made it quite clear that he wants to, and has to resources. The current owners apparently don't want to sell, though.

The biggest negative about him buying the team is that he's a freakin' nut case. The biggest plus would be that he has the personal resources to put into the team, thus minimizing the negative financial impact of a single bad decision. The current ownership group (Nutting/McClatchy) does not have large amounts of cash (at least for a MLB owner) at their personal disposal, so a single expensive mistake is much more difficult to overcome.

I'm from Philly (still an Athletics fan until we get a Major League franchise). I think Cuban, although a little whacked, can make the Bucs into a winner. I can see the team going for 700 million dollars and as long as he keeps the team in the Steel City, I don't see any problem. Perhaps his influence can help the Penguins stay in town. Flyers fan or not, I'd hate to see the Pens relocate.

Okay, I am not a Pirates fan (Tigers fan) but I can remember the days of Willie Stargell and the whole "we are family", loved Kent Tekulve and Dave Parker (among others) and enjoyed their run in the late 70's. It would be great for the city of Pittsburgh to get an owner like Cuban. Never mind his goofiness, the man wants to win and Pirate fans deserve an ownership group that is committed to winning. So YES Cuban should buy the team....it would be great for the city, the fans and baseball in general.
