I went to a clothing optional beach last weekend in Miami, Florida and I was surprised at how many minors were on the beach. Most of them seemed to be in groups with their friends. How does the law allow a 12 or 13 year old girl to be around grown naked men like that but in any other scenario it would be considered inappropriate and illegal. I am 31 years old and I was lying nude near the shore and when it turned to my right, I saw 5 teenage girls lying nearby none of them looked over 14. I felt weird because there I was totally naked on my back with my one incher there and these girls were looking over. I then took my towel, put on my flops and left to another part of the beach. Low and behold there was like 5 teens over there also, 3 boys and two girls. I felt like the beach was full of middle age or high school age kids. Why isnt this illegal? None of those girls were nude. In fact they all had on shorts or skirts. This leads me into thinking they are there to gawk. Isnt this wrong?

I don't know about here in the USA, but in France & many other European nations, it is often the case that entire families participate in "naturalisme." If you think about it, a 4 year old could probably care less one way or another about whether he or else wears clothes at the beach; it is only in societies where we teach that nudity is necessarily equated to sexuality and hence is "something dirty" that a 4 year old, or a 10 year old, or even a 14 year old, might be upset about seeing a stranger naked.

That said, there are certainly some very strong sexual harassment laws in this country that you think would make it impossible for teenagers and adults to legally hang out at the same nude beach unless the parents of the teenagers signed some waiver and accepted responsibility for the whole thing. If I were an adult male, I would certainly be a bit nervous about teenage girls seeing me naked, and I might question the propriety or at least the legality of such an arrangement. After all, all it takes is for one of those girls to claim that you did something inappropriate for you to get into some major trouble. So maybe those teenagers just have irresponsible parents, or maybe they're European.

I've been a nudist since I was 10 and am in my 50's today.Under the guide of the AANR the legit nudist clubs have guide lines concerning the values of the clubs and if anyone should inappropriately act toward a minor or anyone else the will be removed from the club and retained for the local law enforcement agency.
As for nude beaches very few are governed by the AANR and are open to anyone.

I take it you have never been to a nudist resort. You would find people of all ages from newborns all the way up to someone in their nineties. I have also been to a few nude beaches and other clothing optional places with kids being around including being nude themselves, they don't even think twice about it. Besides if it it a clothing optional place that the public is allowed there isn't much you can do about it. I think from your statement that "there you were on your back with your one incher there and those girls looking over" that you were more embarrassed about your size than anything else.

Also it has been a proven fact that kids raised in a nudist environment have a better attitude about the human body than ones that have grown up in a body shamefull environment.

You said none of them LOOKED over 14, many people 18+ look as if they were still in their teens, meaning that you (unless you saw some form of ID...which could be fake btw) did not know the real age of these women.

Regardless, I am not sure why if that is legal or not, with all the cases we face today with pedophilia, I could see it would present a problem, not that people go to nude beaches to get turned on, but well you know.

Why can't Americans separate nudity & sex?

Of course there's no reason to prevent someone of any age from visiting a nude beach. Your question says more about your own hang-ups rather than those of the girls on the beach.

As you say yourself, it was a clothes optional beach, so why shouldn't they wear shorts or skirts if they want to?

Mere nudity itself is not illegal when at an appropriate place like a designated beach. If you were nude in an attempt to be sexual or lewd it would be a completely different story.

I suspect if you'd ever been in the nudist community you'd have known that already, though.
