Im 27 weeks prego with my second kid. I have had restless legs all my life, but during only this pregnancy it has gootten so bad it wakes me up, and even prevents me from sleeping in the first place. I asked my reg doc and my OB on some suggestions, other than stretches and warm massages or showers... They just dont help... My OB said a few tums before bed should help but it hasnt. All my blood and vitamins and other things are normal... so there is no explanation there. I dont know how to get some sleep. I hate pacing the floor every night like a zombie. What have you done to stop this madness?

i have had RLS for as long as i can remember and it got really bad when i got pregnant. my OB said that i could take some benadryl before bed to help me rest.

when i went to wal-mart to get some i didn't know which kind to get so i asked the pharmacist about it and she said that if i was pregnant that i didn't need to take it. when i told her my doc said it was okay she said just to take the regular benadryl. but i wound up not taking it at all because she said that it was a Class B drug concerning pregnant women which meant that they aren't sure what, if any, the side affects are on the unborn babies. Class A medicines are the best because they are considered to be safe for the unborn babies.

i always kick my legs up and down while I'm in the bed. i don't think it helps in the long run but it helps for that moment.

talk to your doc about it to see if he thinks it would be okay for you to take the Benadryl.

hope this helps

Restless legs is sometimes caused by a potassium deficency. Now I know you said your levels were fine, but mine were "fine" too and I was suffering from severe neck cramps. Even though I ate a diet rich in potassium.

Consider trying a potassium pill, chilate is best, citrate is good. I think it is the nitrate ones that are bad. It may help.

Do you have lots of pillows to prop up all the different bits of you and support your back? I assume you are sleeping on your side. Try pushing your bed against the wall and taping a blanket over it to make it warm/soft. Sleep with your back against it.

I took a very warm bath and then I slept on my left side with a pillow in between my legs and a heating pad underneath them that seemed to help me most of the time.

try to lift your legs up with a pillow when you sleeping so that they are at a higher level than your body. also drink lots of water.
