In my house we don't have a "holiday tree" or "holiday music" we have a Christmas tree and Christmas music. We don't go "holiday shopping" we go Christmas shopping. Just what is it about Christmas that offends you libs?

It's not so much liberals, per say, but their main voice, the damn ACLU!!!! They are vehemently opposed to anything not inclusive, that is unless it fits their pre-determined agendas. Some call them the Anti-Christian Liberal Union, but they should call themselves the Anti-Civil Liberties Union, replacing the A in American for the Anti, since destroying our allocated civil liberties is what they are all about, again, assuming they are not on the ACLU's list of 'acceptable plights.'

After all, our civil liberties, established by the 14th-15th ammendment, guarantee us the right to be 'different' without imposing our views on others in force. They take this to the extreme saying that Christmas, since Christ is the basis for the word, is forcing Christianity. They fail to realize that we cannot voice or show our views, or liberties, without an audience. Nobody forces, say, a Muslim to pay it any mind.

Funny though, that there are no attacks by the ACLU on Halloween, the marquee day for Pagans and Satanists. (though it should be noted that 'Hallo' comes from "all hallos-eve" the day before All Saints Day, a catholic holiday started by the Vatican to reverse the 'evil" perception of halloween) In fact, the ACLU fights AGAINST conservative christian efforts to strike down the holiday. Ironic, no? Again, it's THEIR agenda, does it fit in what they believe, or not.

Some liberal philosophy is beneficial, to be sure, and most is good natured and well intentioned, but relentless attacks on the Christian religious right and everything they hold dear are unforgivable. They need to stick to things imposed by GOVERNMENT that affect our rights or liberties, not Holiday campaigns by Wal-Mart or Jewel, or whatever. The ACLU is not the friend of anyone but themselves, abortion clinics and Democratic candidates.

This is an issue having nothing to do with liberalism but rather an acceptance and acknowledgment there are other religions besides Christianity, even some with observances this time of year. The attempt to use the more generic rather than specific greeting is to be inclusive rather than prohibitive. Why must we assume by our words that any and all believe and practice as we do? Why not, by our words and gestures, show that we honor others rather than reject?

Because someone else wants to use the expression "Happy Holidays" does not mean you cannot say "Merry Christmas." I do not observe Christmas (nor any religious holidays) at all and yet am constantly bombarded with religious or holiday greetings. I just thank the person for their greeting and move on. I do not return it because the greeting is not in my personal belief system but that does not mean I intend to restrict or hamper someone else from doing as they wish.

Not offensive at all. We have luncheons at work, parties afterwork, and on week-ends. I go shopping and I put up a Dicken's village. I love the holiday season. You want to say Christmas, knock your socks off. I'm too busy having fun to let testy people try to get under my skin. Happy whatever makes you happy, if that's possible.

Doesn't offend me at all. I love Christmas! And I say Merry Christmas to people. If they're Jewish then I appologize and Say Happy Hanukah (sp) to them. I don't think it should be all that of a big deal.

Liberals make it too big of a deal thinking that America is forcing people to be Christian.

Conservatives make it too big of a deal by thinking Americans are destroying Christmas.

I also helped my older neighboors put out their Nativity scene on their lawn this year. Oh god... not Nativity!!!!

Cons and Libs need to chill out.. it's the holidays, just love eachother for once god-dammit.

{edit}

Merry Christmas to you, DeuceRider

No idea. It's not offensive to me and I personally don't know anyone who takes offense at it and that includes real communists.
In Europe this is a non issue,no one form the far right to the far left thinks Christmas is offensive.Must be an American thing

It doesn't offend me - its "Merry Christmas" or for those who are Jewish "Happy Hanukkah." Not all of us liberals have hopped on that rather stupid, ridiculous, inane, asinine (insert your own adjectives here) politically correct bandwagon. It's always been Christmastime and not Holidaytime and will continue to be so. And I don't wish anyone a "Happy Kwanzaa" either - that's about as ridiculous as "Happy Holidays."

It's not. I have a Christmas tree and listen to Christmas carols. My neighbor celebrates Hanukkah. I don't feel it is my (or the governments) responsibility to impose my religious doctrine on him. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? Should his tax dollars go to support a Christmas display that is contrary to his beliefs? Would you support a Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, or Kwanzaa display with your tax dollars?

Christmas is about "peace on earth, goodwill toward men". You should try it sometime.

This question shows how very little conservatives know or think they know about liberals.

First of all, the vast majority of liberals are Christians. The vast majority of Christians celebrate Christmas and are not offended by it. Therefore the vast majority of liberals celebrate Christmas and are not offended by it.

So when are you going to ask a question that doesn't reflect your hate for liberals and in turn for Christians?

Where are you getting your information from.....I know several libs who celebrate Christmas just as heartily as the cons I know, guess you've simply been fed a diet of false "truth".....

I'm Liberal and we call it Christmas too. We even send out cards with a manger scene on them. Gee, I didn't think Liberal was a religion.
