My mom is 53 years old and doesnt work. She is into gardening, reading, antiques, cooking, and she can sometimes be old-fasioned. I am at a complete loss as to what to get her this year for Christmas. Any ideas would be helpful. I am on a limited budget so under $30 dollars would be nice. =]

I'm 52 and know what she wants (I put this on my list this year, hope my kids read it)...

Buy a foot massager or if its on sale, get one of those massager pads that fit the entire inside of her favorite chair so she can relax and enjoy the sensations. Walking, standing in kitchens and bending over a garden is getting stressful for over 50s muscles!

You mentioned she likes gardening which could indicate her having sore hands or possibly rough hands? Regardless her overworked hands need some tlc so why not get her a gift certificate to a Spa for a manicure? Manicures really aren't expensive and they include a hand soak, hand massage, and polish and paraffin dip which is really soothing and relaxing. Have a look around I know some places are over the top expensive but then there are some places that will equally do a good job for half the price.
I hope you find something special sweety!

This may sound strange but it's a great gift she'll enjoy I bet you.
You could take some of your old clothing or maybe hers, dad's, grandmother, grandfather, etc. and cut them in to all different shapes and sizes and make her a nice little throw or quilt. Something she can look at remember you made it and it's from so many different things you crated. She can rap up in it and read. Just an idea right? Sometimes things we make with our own hands mean so much more. And all you might spend is for the sewing thread and scissors if you haven't already had them. Best wishes...~smiles~

you should give her a "coupon" book -cost is just some pretty card paper- inside you write out coupons good for say 1 dinner you cook, 1 night she doesnt have to do dishes, maybe 1 free day of weeding in her garden, you know different things she'll appreciate you doing for her. it doesnt cost you anything and mom will love it! ive said this in a few of my answers- i made one for my husband( im sure you can imagine the coupons he got) and he loved it! it works for just about anyone on your list. good luck and happy holidays to you!

you said that she liked to cook so why not get or make her one of those all-in-one cookie or soup jars. You know the ones that have all the ingredients and all you need to do is either add milk or water...since they are fairly inexpensive maybe you could make a three or four for her..GOOD LUCK :)

here are a couple of recipes:

Cookie Mix in a Jar
INGREDIENTS
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
DIRECTIONS
Mix the salt and baking soda with the flour, then layer the ingredients into a 1 quart, wide mouth jar. Use scissors to cut a 9 inch-diameter circle from calico. Place over lid, and secure with rubber band. Tie on a raffia or ribbon bow to cover rubber band.
Enclose a card with the following mixing and baking directions: Chocolate Chip Cookies 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). 2. In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of unsalted butter or margarine until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix in cookie mix. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough, spaced well apart, onto a greased cookie sheet. 3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.
