Alright well I am on my school bowling team. A new guy one year older than me recently joined. He's kinda quiet but I have gotten to know him a little better and he does seem to talk more, at least around me. Anyways, he seems like a really cool kid and I wanted to be his friend, but i'm not sure how to go around and do it. I already have brief conversations with him, but they only last like 2 minutes each. I found his myspace and he is now added but thats it, he's added, no really contact through it. Any ideas on how to become better friends with him? And by the way i'm not gay I just want his friendship, and we are both straight. I say this because re-reading this it sounds like I "want" him. But thanks, all advice and help is appreciated.

You can ask him if he wants to hang out, or go someplace after school, like to a coffee shop for a pop or something. You can eliminate doubt about being gay by somehow bringing up a girl you dated, or if you are too young, a girl you like. Can you catch up with him at lunchtime when you have more time to talk? It is hard the first time to ask someone if they want to be friends; another option is to just keep it as it is now - sooner or later something will come up that you share an interest in, like a movie you want to see, or a store you want to check out, or you both have to go the library to do some school project, then you can say something like Hey, do you want to go with me? Good luck, you sound like someone who will be a very good friend.

Take it slow and just continue to talk to him. Friendship might develop, it might not. It's one of those things that just happens. You can not force it.
