OK so this isnt much of a question of intentional grounding as much as just throwing the ball away. when a QB is outside the tackles can he throw it NEWHERE away? Cuz I see a lot of QBs throw it upfield and sometimes it gets intercepted cuz he didnt get it out of bounds. Cant he just turn right or left and throw it straight out of bounds?

Someone mentioned it has to go past the line of scrimmage...thats what i was wondering. Is this correct?

yes, you are correct, a QB must be outside of the pocket and he can do whatever he wants with the ball. If he is still inside the pocket, he must throw it relatively close to a reciver to avoid and intentional grounding play....hope this helps!

I think the rule (this year) is that, as long as the QB is outside the tackle (the pocket) he can throw it anywhere. It's a stuid rule, though. I think that there should not be any sort of rule that allows a QB to throw the ball away. That is penalizing the defense for good coverage. Yes, it protects the QB, but it also makes the game longer and penalizes good defense

In the situation you described, the pass only has to cross the line of scrimmage, going out of bounds is okay.

Sometimes the QBs just screw it up.

yes as long as he's outside of the tackles he can throw it anywhere he wants to throw it just as long as there's a receiver in the spot of where's he's throwing it away
