It would all depend on what your basing a better life on..Are you talking about being away from your family all this time just so you can give them things that money can buy? Or are you traveling together? If you have to be away from your family all this time then it's definitely not worth it because you can't put a price tag on love.

No.

A better life is a family. You are talking about replacing yourself with a paycheck. Ask anyone who grew up in a household similar to what you're suggesting and I bet they say they would have preferred a dad over a few extra goodies in life.

No. Your participation in your family has no monetary value. You will be a virtual stranger the longer it goes on. Kids won't understand your 'sacrifice' they will only remember you were not there. After so long, absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder, just forgetful

It is your job, you know, when your wife married you, she must move when you move, and go where you go, but when it is your job and you have no other resource, you have to do what you got to do.
Have you thought about changing your job, and talked to your wife for a new lifestyle with the kids?
It is and has been your decison, where you are, and how much can you take this lifestyle?

ask the irs, thanks to the tax laws, 25,000 americans are working in iraq in support of the war. none of us can spend more than 30 days a year in the us, or we have to pay taxes on everything we make.

so, it's not fair, it's not good, it's a decision each family must make together, to compare the risks and the rewards.
