I believe it is a necessary act.

In response to kak is "how" in Russia or whatever your name is:
I support the death penalty because a life is required for a life. I don't support abortion because it is an innocent vicim not a murderer who is being killed.

Capital punishment is not revenge but a PUNISHMENT. It also does deter crime because those who murdered others can't kill again. It would deter even more crime if it was used in every state and frequently. The death penalty is used very infrequently so criminals are not afraid of the punishment. For those of you who think life in prison is hard. Think about what you are saying. Some prisons these days have cable, family visitation hours, and 3 meals a day give to them. Don't forget the airconditioning. Not all prisons have this, but it is rapidly progressing to the point where all might have this under the ridiculous argument of cruel and unusual punishment. Now...does this sound like punishment. Have you ever read "The Cop and the Anthem"? It tells a story of a person who WANTED to be imprisoned for the winter months for the very reasons I have stated. In fact, he went and performed crimes in order to go there.

Marcus K:
Do you realise that God instituted Capital Punishment after the worldwide Flood? Maybe you should read your Bible before making comments like that. Make sure it is the right version too, the KJV.

I used to not believe in the Death penalty but my mind is changing
i used to think that people that killed should be locked in a cell 23 hours aday with out a TV or any conversation with any other person but as i have found out more even in the super-max in the shu inmates still chat to each other etc
i do believe in the Death penalty now Ive seen alot of documentaries and the more i learn and open my eyes to how cruel and evil people can be the more i believe in it
no one has the right to take another humans life but if you kill i do believe you should have your life taken at least they no what is happening to them
but the poor defensive people they kill they don't stand a chance god bless all them innocent people who have lost there life's to evil and uncaring people
respect

I am absolutely against the death penalty. One can go on and on about victims' rights (and I have myself been a victim of a very violent crime) but one does not have the right to take the life of another except in self defense or necessary defense of others. For the sake of the protection of others, it is certainly necessary to keep some people away from the public, absolutely. But to take their lives would be to say that we have the right to make decisions that only belong to our Creator. A murderer is a murderer is a murderer and the state has no more right to be a murderer than you or I.

For a long time i was for it, but I am also Pro-life. I realized that I could not be pro-life and support the death penalty at the same time. Even though babies are innocent and in-mates could be some of the most evil ppl on earth. I have accepted that only God has the right to take away life. He alone should punish those who break his rules. Tough one.

depends on the case. jail it a rehab for convicts not a prison. this is a commen miss understanding. what it does is help the convicts to go back in to the public again.most murders show remorse for what they have done and its the ones who dont i personally think should be punished in the same way they did to there victims. i do think that murders should be used for experiments instead of animals.and rapists have there ***** cut off!

This one is hard because say they did take a life...what about the person that throws the switch or pushes the poison in the body as that person's death sentence. Are they not murder's as well? Just because it's the law, does it make them one also?

It's just state sponsored murder based on a desire for revenge, and nothing else. If it was justice and acted as a deterrant, then why is it that the murder rate is higher in states with the death penalty than in those without.

I am of the belief the if you want to lie in our society you need to abide by our laws, this means everyone.
if a persons crime is inhumane enough than yes i feel they forfiet the right to live life full stop.
I would love to see it reintroduced here in australia because there are lifers that get out reoffend and then we put them back in, surely it would be better to protect the innocent and do away with the threat.
that is my thoughts but everyone is entitled to their own thoughts
cheers

Well color me surprised. You're so adamantly against abortion, yet support the death penalty. Those convicts were babies once too. I'm for the death penalty.

Personally, I don't think the death penalty is punishment.
All we do is send his spirit to a loving, merciful God.
Spending 50 years in prison, with plenty of time to think about
what he did. That's punishment!
