Morals are defined:
-Culturally/Historically
-Legally
-Scripturally
-Within families
-Within individuals
They allow human beings to get on with our fellow humans, without causing too much friction. They also define sociocultural groups -- religious dietary laws, for example -- set Us apart from Them.
Ultimately, 'morality' is what connects human beings to others of his/her kind/group/society/clan.
This is why it is so much easier to wage war on people whose morals are perceived to be different from Ours. They are obviously Them.
'Morals' can be defined, with a very broad brush, as 'the Rules WE live by', only they're so all-pervasive, that they are really 'what WE believe'.
'Morality' is the imposition of Our beliefs on Them. Everyone has felt her/his beliefs defied or threatened at some point.
'Moralistic' is someone who feels the need/right to impose his/her beliefs on Them. People can become quite violent when it comes to this, (eg. terrorism of all kinds, such as killing abortion doctors 'for Life'. The abortionists are Them. The women having abortions are Them. The foetuses are potentially Us, and that pretty much justifies everything.)
If you are really interested, take a course in Moral Philosophy. I didn't, because I'm more interested in Ethics and Justice than theories. Moral Philosophy is about... theories. That's sort of the nature of Philosophy.
Ethics and Justice are about poverty, world peace, and working towards Global Co-operation, instead of what we have, which is Global Competition. Humans are social beings, and we could go either way.
'It's all about who has the stronger invisible friend' [my paraphrase]- Yasser Arafat
This is a REALLY BIG QUESTION. I could write a library, and fail to cover an invisible speck of it.
I've given you the Yahoo short-and-sweet version.
Hope it helps...

Morality refers to the concept of human ethics which pertains to matters of good and evil —also referred to as "right or wrong", used within three contexts: individual conscience; systems of principles and judgments — sometimes called moral values —shared within a cultural, religious, secular, Humanist, or philosophical community; and codes of behavior or conduct.
Personal morality defines and distinguishes among right and wrong intentions, motivations or actions, as these have been learned, engendered, or otherwise developed within each individual.
Since everyones moral values are different I would think your morals are a personal thing.

I think there are personal morals, for instance, I believe that offensive language and obscenities is wrong in public. But many practice it and don't have a problem with it.
I also believe in absolute morals. For instance, I think that 99.9% of people in the world would find that torturing babies for fun is wrong.
