I have a 1987 Camaro V6 coupe. This started 2 days ago I was pressing on the gas as I normally do. Then it started making this loud clanking sound, now I have to use my big toe to push on the gas or it starts making it again. Unfortunately I still have to drive it though other wise I would wait till it is fixed. What it wrong with it???

It is an ongoing sound and my car starts to shake forward and backward

Not knowing how long the clanking sound last after you press on the pedal makes it hard to determine. If the sound only happens once each time you press on the gas I would say that it is your universal joint in your drive line. A good way to check it out is to have a friend or yourself climb underneath the vehicle, grab hold or your drive line and try to twist it. The drive line should not move if it does I would start by replacing the joints. They don,t cost all that much and are not hard to replace. If it is an ongoing noise when you press on the gas I really don,t have a clue as to what it might be, but you should get it checked out before something bad happens to your car and it leaves you stranded on the side of the road and perhaps in traffic depending on where you live. Good luck on finding the problem and hope this information helps.

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it might have bad universal joint in it,,and if its this bad it may fall out of it,,if it does its going to cause some real damage to it,,you at least need to have it checked out real good,,it could also be something in the front end causing this to happen,,id at least have it checked out,,they probably wont charge but a few bucks to check it,,and at least you,ll know how much farther yo can go with it,,good luck with it i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-,s.

Check the motor mounts and exhaust system. Engine or pipes might be hitting the frame.
