I have many hobbies, but the ones that are good to sit down and do are Knitting, Crocheting, Beading and Polymer Clay. None of them are particularly expensive to start with, though polymer clay usually requires you get a pasta machine to use with the clay that will never be used for food again.

Knitting and Crocheting are also very portable, so you can bring your project with you when you travel, or waiting for an appointment.

Beading is fun since you can make jewelry, and the projects can be as easy or complicated as you want to make them. You can decide to choose a project that only takes an hour, or one that takes 6 months.

Polymer clay has benefits as you can make so many different things from it - containers, jewelry, home decorations and x-mass tree ornaments. You have so many other materials you can incorporate into the process, and a huge range of colors and textures to work with.

I am a knitter and compulsive knitting-pusher... You know, it's nice to have a hobby that a) ends up giving you something useful and stylish and b) is very comforting--nothing like sitting down with a lapful of soft mohair or colorful wool and getting to run your hands over the warm fibers for hours.

Websites for learning: http://knittinghelp.com/ , which has videos--nearly essential, as it's hard to pick up some things from reading about them or looking at pictures.

http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_kn.php3 , maybe the nicest walkthrough on the knit stitch. Also lots of information on the site elsewhere about yarns, needles, etc.

http://www.theyarnco.com/instruction.php has a good summary of all the basics--cast on, bind off, and knit and purl stitch. (Knitting has only two stitches. Once you have those, you can do anything with them!)

And once you're ready to go, the huge amount of things you can make: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/index.php

Try leather crafts. I really like it and it doesn't take strenth or even skill. the more you put into your detail the better it will be. you can keep it simple or get really detailed in the work you do. I like making western belts, hat bands and firearm acsesories. I even made my mother a saddle purse from a kit. Tooling leather is a great escape from the events of the day's stress.

Crochet is worry-free to study, and also you may make stuff on your infant! only bypass to the library and get a e book to study how, its extremely common to study. once you realize the commonly used stitches and abbreviations, you need to do new kinds in a snap. Boy, "The Dude" is rather impolite and illiberal, isn't he?

I personally love to knit. There is something very relaxing - almost meditative - about it. Plus, you've got something to show for it afterward. Crochet is nice too, but doesn't come as easily for me. http://www.lionbrand.com/ is a good place to learn to do either of them.
