I've done a lot of research on differin's safety - it's absorption topically is minimal and research in pregnant rats showed toxicity only at very high oral doses. There is no hard evidence that it is harmful and of course no randomized studies in pregnant women to show it is absolutely safe. From what I have read, it does seem to be relatively benign and actually falls in the same pregnancy class as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid - all category C. But, given that it is a retinoid-like compound and related to the hightly teratogenic oral Accutane, most doctors are not willing to consider it's use in pregnant women.

Just wondering if anyone has used differin while pregnant and if your doctor was okay with that.

Of course it's got that usual "...should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus," and nobody is going to tell you "Sure, zits are worth the risk."

Suck it up. I want to say the risks are overblown as per a lot of stuff, but anything even peripherally related to Accutane? No. Category C isn't quite so benign as to be worth messing with for inconveniences.

I _just_ got back from a trip to the pharmacy in search of something to replace the Retin-A (which I am now relieved to have stopped using some months ago), never mind salicylic acid, etc, and came home with:

http://www.dermamed.com/product_details/natural_skin_care/dmacne_gel/default.asp

"Cautions and Contraindications:
No side effects or contraindications."

There is a site saying tea tree oil should be used only on a doctor's recommendation, but I find no evidence for that; looks to be just the usual 'we're lazy, and don't want to be sued.'

no don't take it I was using minocycline and had to stop when I found I was pregnant. You shouldn't take anything that may or maynot hurt baby wait until you give birth then pop the pills which is what I did immediately after my son was born.
