i think (if i've got your right tack here) that constant resistance in, say running for example, would be running the same course at the same speed every time.

With variable you increase and decrease the distance run, do it on flats or hills and do it hell for leather or like a retiring snail.

Guess you modify all the parameters of training and apply it to your sport.
