Heres the news so far:

The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics have emerged as the leaders to trade for disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star Allen Iverson, league executives told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night.

According to sources, 76ers general manager Billy King has targeted Mavericks guard Devin Harris – a favorite of the executive's going back to Harris' college days at Wisconsin – as a primary piece to a potential package with Dallas.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wouldn't deny that he's engaged in trying to make a deal for Iverson but wrote in an email to Yahoo! Sports on Friday night, "We wouldn't trade Devin."

King has been telling teams that he wants a combination of expiring contracts, young players and draft picks for Iverson. Sixers owner, Ed Snider, flatly said Friday night: "We'll trade him."

Several teams in the past few days have expressed interest in the 2001 NBA MVP and four-time league scoring champion, including the Denver Nuggets – who like Boston – discussed those trade possibilities with the 76ers before last June's NBA draft.

The Celtics have a deep roster of young players, including forward Al Jefferson and guards Delonte West, Sebastian Telfair and Rajon Rondo, to send to Philadelphia. Also, they have the weighty veteran contract of Theo Ratliff to help balance Iverson's contract in a deal.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, with a possible package of Ricky Davis and rookie guard Randy Foye out of Villanova, is also believed to be a factor.

What had long been a tumultuous relationship between Iverson and the 76ers reached a breaking point this week.

As the New York Post initially reported on Friday, Iverson asked King for a trade on Tuesday and the G.M. soon thereafter started exploring possible deals around the league. After missing practice on Thursday and a shootaround on Friday with apparent back spasms, Iverson said he was well enough to play in Philadelphia's game against Washington on Friday night.

However, Iverson said 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks told him to stay away from the Wachovia Center and informed Iverson that he wouldn't be traveling to Orlando for a Saturday meeting with the Magic.

After getting banished for two games, Iverson issued a statement through his agent Leon Rose that sounded like he was resigned to the inevitability of a trade. More and more, it sounds like his 11-year career in Philadelphia is coming to a close.

"As hard as it is to admit, a change may be the best thing for everyone," Iverson said. "I hate admitting that because I love the guys on the team and the city of Philadelphia. I truly wanted to retire a 76er.

There is no way AI and Kobe could work on a team together, but i do think AI should come to LA. The Clippers could send Livingston and Maggette for AI and would instantly be the favorites in the West. Elton Brand, Allen Iverson and Sam Cassell woud be hard to defend. With Cuttino Mobley being there 6th man and Chris Kaman being a decent Center. That would be a good team

Man, it'd be huge. I guess it's time to recognize that the Sixers will be re-building for the next four years ... might as well take some young talent and future draft picks.

I wonder if any team can take on the contract tho ~ it's possible AI may be stuck in Philly for the rest of his career.

Sure AI would love to play with KG, but KG has the biggest contract in the NBA ... could that team take another huge contract?

In any case, I can't believe AI would want to play anywhere that is not a true urban setting. I remember laughing when Chris Webber got traded to Sacramento, he was soooo not prepared for the slow life. I think he got traded for smoking pot on the way to a 10am practice by the police.

Allen iverson got traded because he is a ball hog. Eventhough he is good, (my favorite player) he doesnt seem to know how to pass. I was reading the Boston Globe and they said that he doesnt pay attention to directions and could care less. From an inside scoop, (my dad knows the coach) he says that he wasnt even that good.

The 76ers might be able to get somebody like Baron Davis back from Golden State as the "best" player.

They want somebody young and talented, like Devin Harris from Dallas, but Cuban reportedly won't trade him.

They might end up with somebody like Randy Foye, the rookie from Minnesota, a couple of expiring contracts, and future draft picks.

Potentially getting a number of young players from Boston, like Kendrick Perkins, and a shooter like Wally Szerberiak.

Well A.I. himself said that he wanted to go to Minnesota to play with KG in an interview that I saw on ESPN.
If he does go there [ which i think he has a 90% chance]
The sixers will either get Randy Foye Trenton Hassell and Mike JAmes
or
Mike JAmes and Ricky Davis.

well they can probably get a decent package but it won't be as good as they want it to be due to the fact that teams know that the 76ers want to dump him so i look for whoever ends up dealing for him to try to shortchange the 76ers a little bit

He will probably go to Boston, or Dallas. If he went to Boston, then I would assume a couple of 1st round picks, and a player to be name later. If he goes to Dallas, then I would assume for Jerry Stackhouse, Devin Harris, and maybe a pick.

They will most certainly see me in the stands once his gangsta wannabe, ball hogging, poor shooting percentage, non practicing, crybaby butt is sent away. I would be satisfied with a bag of new basketballs.
