I hate to tell you this, but there is no really standard time. Some girls have no discharge at all and then get their periods. I had none, my little sister had none, my mom said she had none. I was the first of my friends to get my period, and they all asked me questions, and not once did any of them mention discharge. Sorry!

For information about menarche - your first period - visit this site:

If she is concerned about it, she should go to the doctor about it, preferably a gynocologist.

I had discharge for almost exactly a year before I got my period. I heard that the average is about 6 months but that didn't happen with me. I was 12 years old when I got my period but almost 13. I was 2 months away from turning 13. The average age is about 12-16 years old.

the answer above me is right, therse no real set time you will have discharge. I started my period when i was 12 and i had discharge on and off for about 2 months. and now before i get my period, i have a slight discharge. your a really good friend for wanting to help her, she should appreciate you. but also she needs to talk to her mother or someone else thats more experienced and can help her more.
good luck and hope i helped!
