I've never had a gyno. I'm 41 but no kids, so have always had my Family Practice doctor do my yearly exams. One doc I had that I really liked was recommended by my Mom...the other (current doc) was recommended by a friend of mine who is a nurse. Both docs are female, which is my preference.

For choosing, start with the list of who your insurance covers, then see if you can find friends, family, or coworkers who use them and get opinions. If you are not limited by a list, then talk to people whose opinions you respect (esp any friends in the medical field locally) and ask them....if they can't give a good recommendation, they may at least be able to steer you away from any docs in your area who may not be up to par.

Ask all the other women you know about the gynos they see.
Decide whether you would like a man or a woman. Feel free to ask the receptionist or nurses at your regular doctors office as well. Most women you come in contact with will give you there opinion. Also, If you go to one and don't like him/her. Just get another one until you feel comfortable.

I would ask your general doctor who he or she recommends. If you have Insurance ask for a referral book of doctors in your area. You can always go back to your doctor who delivered your babies.

I use the same obgyn that delivered my babies. I feel comfortable with him cause I have nothing left to hide. He has seen it all.

Your physician can recommend one, or you can also ask your friends and family who they use, and why they like them.

Ask your best friends, it is very important to ask if they feel comfortable around him or she.
