what are you looking for? Clothes, food, electronics, shoes, furniture?
It's not the mall wich is expensive or cheap, it's the different stores you find in the malls.
I think Dubai's malls are just great! - but, I hardly never spent any money there. Go window shopping and have a coffee, fine.
You should look for certain things in Carrefore and Co Op. You might not get all these "famous" brands, but who cares.
Household items I mostly buy in the souq.
Try these shopping centers: Al Bustan Center, Al Manza
Hamarain Center, Al Manal Center or the oldes mall in Dubai, he Al Mullaa Plaza. There are shopping promotions during all year.
Did you ever noticed, that it might get cheaper to buy nice material and have clothes made by the tailer insted of buying it?

As H mentioned it depends on what are you looking for, try Lamsy Plaza it is reasonable, they have many discount shops there.
