RICE IT!
R = rest
I = ice
C = compression
E = elevation
So in other words, keep your weight off it, stick a bag of peas on it, whack a bandage or support on it and keep your leg up on a cushion or something similar.
Do go get it looked at though, it could be any number of things.

Thats sounds exactly like what I did to it.....I ruptured my ACL Ligament.....and it was caused by a sports injury but these injuries can happen even as you walk down the stairs and some people don't realize it for a long time....go see your doctor or to an emergency room and request to get an MRI on it....til then take tylenol or advil and keep icing it to minimize the pain....I know how bad knee injuries can be....hang in there....it will be better soon....

Do not be confused...some of them advise heat therapy, others suggest ice. The rule is this:
A. with history of trauma---apply ice 1st 24 hrs, beyond 24 hrs apply heat.
B. w/o history of trauma---apply heat(no use for ice)
Analgesics/pain relievers may help(use only if w/ really bothersome pain, if pain is tolerable dont use it).
Rest your affected knee but dont overdo it bcoz u might cause the lubricating fluid in your knee joint to freeze if u dont move ur knee for a long time(it might give you "locked knee"). Always check the range of motion.
Best is consult ur own doctor.
If there's really no history of trauma to your knee i bet ur problem will resolve on its own in less than a month's time.

You did something to mess it up. Get a knee wrap or brace. Take 500 mg of MSM daily and increase the dose each day by 500 mg until you get up to 8 grams a day.
This stuff is great for injuries and has virtually no negative side effects.

There have been a couple of good suggestions, heat is probably the best for pain relief along with Ibuprofen taken 6 hourly. Rest it and see a doctor as soon as you can. Try not to weight bear more than you have to...;

hi i also have the same prob as you and it sounds like you might have a torn cartliage, this can happen just from wear and tear as you use your knees all the time, if your knee doesnt get better or gets better then gives way again ask your gp to refer you to a orthapedic surgeon, hope it gets better x

Go to the Doctors. If he can't help go to an osteopath. Your Doctor may be able to recommend one.

rheumatism probably, apply heat on it with a hot water bottle, or simply massage some balm like deep heat.
