Actually the deal isn't bad. But you will face two problems. No 1 is your configuration is too poor for chating(or any kind of Internet Applications). No 2 is you have to pay a lot if there comes a damage in any of your hardware parts. Because these old hardwares are not too available. (Such as SD RAM is almost out of market.) Haven't you heard about LG My PC. It's configuration is tollerable and price is as low as Rs.12000 and onwards. Though My PC is also not the best but you might have tried it.

Whatever you have to do is to use the PC with proper care. Don't create extra pressure on it. That may cause damage in it.

Well, that is hard to say. It is not even close to being worth the price in the US. I would have paid maybe 50$ dollars US, at the extreme price.
However if you are from East European/Russia, I don't know the value of price for electronics. Usually computers/electronics in EU are more expensive versus the USA.
So its hard to say if you got a good deal. But they are two things to look at.
1. What kind of price would it have been to build yourself or a friend ,ordering On-line. (Check to see on-line price the motherboard/combo, ram) ? I can only imagine how cheap it would be.
2. How does the price compare to other computers of the same range?

No. I don't believe it is... at least not in the U.S or Canada. You can get a much more powerful unit (used) for about $50.

example :

Compaq DESKPRO EN #203598 $78
PIII 733 8.4G IDE 128M, Mid Size Desktop, 1.44FD, IDE CD-ROM, 4MB Video, 1 Parallel, 2 Serial, USB, 10/100 Int., Sound *

My apologies for being the bearer of bad news (unless of course you purchased it outside U.S or Canada.

No man! You can get 3.5 GHz, over 100 GB, over 100 MB RAM for around $200 or $300!

I'd say you got ripped. But since you don't live in the US, it might have been a good deal.

THough your salesman is lying about the PIII. Most mobos aren't that upgradable.

That is a pretty outdated computer but if you keep it clean and don't install too much on it, you shouldn't have a problem with using chatting software.
