deinately raise teh water to about 80, create lots of hiding places with plants etc, and feed them well. Nature will take its course - just make sure you have plenty of females in the tank! They are very easy breeders. Once you do see a pregnant female, watch for erratic behavor, swimming in a corner diagonally, she's about to give birth. Put her in a breeding net and remove her once the babies are born. More will survive that way and won't be tasty treats to the others.

Platies are livebears so you shouldn't have a problem breeding them but you will have a problem keeping the fry if your keeping them in the same tank as the adults as they will eat the young!!!!!!! This is probably your problem. I successfully breed molly's, guppy's and swordtails which are all livebears. Do you even know how to tell the sex of your fish? You need to buy a hatchery tub to put in your tank if you want to successfully breed fish. Then you need to keep an eye on the females most fish will change colour slightly when they are expecting but the gestation period is usually around three weeks. You need to separate the expecting female into the hatchery tub at about two and a half weeks so she doesn't become stressed and abort the pregnancy. Its more trail and error than anything when it come to breeding them but as I said you'll do alot better if you had a hatchery tub

Give them a seperate tank of their own and fill it with lots of plants (live or fake)and decor. Increase the temp to about 77-79F and keep your tank aerated a little. This will encourage them but usually livebearers generally dont need much to breed.
For info on breeding you can email me or look at some of my earliest answers on breeding.
