Firstly in this part of the world you won't see any "mile" indicators - better to start thinking "kilometres" before coming to Africa (1 mile is about 1.6 km).
Secondly, Diewaarheid's GPS doesn't take into account that you may not be able to find fuel (or food!) in Zimbabwe.
I would suggest the following route (about 1700 km): South from Lusaka to Livingstone at Victoria Falls. Cross the "horn" of Zimbabwe to Kasane in Botswana. Take the Eastern Botswana highway south to Gaborone (beware speed traps). Cross to South Africa (ask directions to the border post). Drive til you get to the N1 highway (the big north-south road in SA. Take the N1 south to Jo'burg.
If you're British, you may want to skip the exorbitant border fees and corrupt Zim officials altogether - for this take the road west from Livingstone and cross by ferry to Kasane.
It's a long drive and the border posts close at night. About halfway at Nata in Botswana there are some nice bungalows to overnight (behind the big gas station on the right).
Enjoy - it's a beautiful route. Watch out for those elephants, especially when driving at night between Lusaka and Nata. South of Nata you won't have any problems with elephants.
