I believe the Stone age man was called Homo hablis (handy man). The enlarged encephalon (brain) could make use of the environment. IE the manipulative thumb,as well as the increased learning + the Stereoscopic vision, + hence the manufacture of crude tools. Eventually the species took over the world ie Homo sapien(wise man).
