For domestic (in the U.S.) mail, the first stamp ($0.39) covers the first ounce. Each additional ounce is $0.24.
Generally speaking, the first stamp covers you for about four sheets of standard (20#) paper, while each additional stamp covers you for about six more.
Most post offices offer digital scales which will compute the necessary postage for you.
These rates are for standard or business sized envelopes. Larger letters and international letters ship at a different rate. For more info, either visit your local office or check out the rates schedule at www.usps.com.

I think what you are looking for is to know in general how many pages of standard sized paper with an envelope you can send before it needs an extra stamp. Generally speaking its 4 pages!
