you turn the knob to how you want your clothes washed and then you push the knob or pull it depending on your machine. My machine has a start/stop button. It all depends on the make and model of your machine. And you also have to adjust the water level to how much you have to wash.

Push the knob IN and turn clockwise until you get to the start of a cycle - usually there's two or three possibilities. Then pull the knob OUT. It should move out about a quarter of an inch and the machine should start filling the tub with water. Be sure the water is turned on and the machine is plugged into the wall (and that circuit has power).

There is a dial that points to wash, rinse and spin. Usually they pull out to start.

Okay, I have the same brand. :) Its not stupid.
Push the knob in, and turn it to Heavy Load, which should be all the way to the left, and put your clothes in. When there's a good amount of water put ONE CUP of laundry detergent in.
