It was traditional in my youth and my parents and grandparents youth, to cut, or buy, a fir tree and put it in a bucket of sand/soil and decorate with candles and presents on Christmas eve.

I awoke from months in coma on Christmas (1953) eve at the age of 8 yrs inside an ambulance that was transferring me from one hospital, to another... (that decision to transfer me likely jolted me awake since our old ambulances in the UK didn't have that good a suspension fitted in them) and I was wheeled into the children's ward, where the nurses were busy decorating the ward and putting up the tree... talk about confusing... it was no where near Christmas, when I was hit by a lorry on my way to school!

I knew exactly what day it was, because they were putting up the tree:-)

I am not putting up my tree until next weekend. My kids are grown up so now I can relax and not be pressured into thinking about doing so before I'm ready!

Christmas is about Christ's birth... and I dislike the commercialism of it... presents I am buying obviously, but the decorations can wait! Traditionally you keep the tree up for only the twelve days of Christmas season. Mine comes down on New Year's Day...

Merry Christmas everyone.

I do ours on a convenient day, about a week before Christmas, along with the decorations. The children usually help to decorate the tree.

Some people do it at the start of Advent (last Sunday was the 1st Sunday of Advent this year).
We prefer to wait until Christmas Eve in our family. Then the excitement really starts.
Hoping for loads of snow again this Christmas ....

Most people put it up the day after Thanksgiving, but if you're like me, you're lucky to get it up before Christmas day! lol

I usually try to have it up in time for the 1st of December. If I'm going to go through all the trouble of decorating it, I want it to be up as long as possible.
